Hillside Country Cottage is nestled in an elevated, tranquil spot at Velado (Agia Mavra) in the central-eastern part of the island. This is the greenest part of Kea, an area dotted with rare old oak trees. The cottage affords stunning views of the sparkling blue sea and the surrounding untouched hillsides, where guests may catch a glimpse of wild horses. The location makes the cottage ideal for a relaxed getaway, with plenty of choices for leisurely walks or hikes in a serene pastoral setting. And it’s only 3 km to the nearest beaches. Picturesque Orkos, washed by crystalline blue-green waters, has a few straw umbrellas and several trees providing shade. Due to its location, the beach attracts very few visitors and the clear water is perfect for snorkelling. The road is paved right down to Orkos, while a turn-off leads to an even more secluded beach, Psathi.

Constructed of stone throughout, the functionally independent cottage stands on roughly 5,000 m2 of private land and has an internal surface area of 45 m2, along with 80 m2 of terrace. Thick walls provide good insulation, ensuring that the interiors remain cool in summer and warm in winter, so there is no need for air-conditioning. Hillside Country Cottage fully respects the island’s traditional building style and no synthetic materials have been used in its construction. Everything is natural and authentic, in a harmonious combination of modern and vernacular architecture. The same respect has also been shown to the land, on which no chemical fertiliser has ever been used.
The traditional stone building, over 100 years old, has been lovingly renovated and transformed into a cosy holiday cottage. Blending seamlessly into the hillside terrain, natural daylight flows into the interior through two skylights. The cottage features one bedroom with double bed (1.40 x 2 m), a cosy sitting area with a dining table and a double bed (1.40 x 2 m) on which one or two children can sleep. There is also a small bathroom/WC, which is accessed via the double bedroom, as well as a fully equipped kitchenette. Hillside Country Cottage opens directly onto a large terrace shaded by a reed pergola, with a wooden dining table and deckchairs, from which guests can take in the amazing sea views, watch the sun rise and savour memorable sunsets. The undulating landscape between the cottage and the sea is a stunning tapestry of olive groves and natural pastures where goats graze freely.
Larger groups of guests can rent the cottage in combination with the two independent residences of Velado Villa (see listing), which stand on the same piece of land.
