Location
This lovingly renovated cottage stands in the completely unspoiled south of the island, perched atop a rocky hill that affords a stunning panoramic view of the shimmering sea and blue sky. Nearby are two of the island’s most beautiful beaches: secluded Kalo Ampeli with sand and pebbles, and tranquil Vagia, which offers a few umbrellas, sunbeds and a couple of tavernas. Both are just a short drive away, though Kalo Ampeli also requires a 10-minute descent on a footpath. The location of the cottage, within the EU Natura 2000 network allows guests to completely switch off from daily routine, chill out and connect with the island’s unique energy. But if guests do feel the need to get out and about, charming Livadi and picturesque Hora are both within easy driving distance.
Description
The sustainable cottage has been reconstructed with utmost respect for the island’s traditional architecture and natural environment, using eco-friendly materials such as the indigenous granite-like stone found on-site, while preserving the local vegetation.
Inspired by the rugged island landscape and original purpose of the building as a shepherd’s cottage, the cosy 30 m2 interior comprises an open-plan space with traditional built-in sitting area and extra-comfy double bed with high-end King Koil mattress. The inviting independent bathroom with rain shower is built into the natural rock. The overall design has a ‘bohemian island’ feel in the ‘cottagecore’ style that embraces simplicity and reflects the agricultural origins of the cottage.
The outdoor area is dominated by the 40 m2 open terrace, shaded by a massive pergola made from wild chestnut wood and Greek reed. From this vantage point, guests can relax in the comfortable dining area while taking in the panoramic sea view. Other outdoor amenities include a gas-burner kitchenette and private shower.
For larger parties, the cottage can be rented together with the adjacent Farmhouse (see listing), subject to availability. Both stand on 4.9 acres of untouched land and the layout ensures that guests enjoy complete privacy.
