Location
The house is located in the medieval village of Aroniadika, a listed traditional settlement right in the centre of Kythira, making it an ideal base for exploring the entire island. Little changed by the passage of time, Aroniadika is known for its striking architecture, reminiscent of the Mani region in the southern Peloponnese. The settlement is surrounded by fruit orchards, vegetable gardens and pastures, providing an idyllic backdrop for walking and hiking. There is plenty to discover in the area, including the ruined fortress of Paleochora, the island’s Byzantine capital.
Description
Built on a large terrace, the recently renovated accommodation comprises two separate buildings – the main house and the guestrooms – which share an extensive paved courtyard. The exteriors conform to the traditional local style with an emphasis on stone and spacious outdoor areas, while the interiors are authentically rustic with wooden beam ceilings, harmoniously combined with contemporary, tasteful furnishings and modern amenities.
The main house has a large living room, a dining area with table for six, a fully equipped open-plan kitchen, one bedroom with double bed and a bathroom with jetted tub/shower and WC.
The second building houses two independent guestrooms, each with one bedroom with double beds and their own shower facility/WC.
The courtyard features a barbecue grill and an inviting, shaded dining area with a wooden table and chairs for up to eight people. Richly evocative of country life on a Greek island, the outdoor spaces offer options for socialising with friends or savouring a quiet drink while taking in unobstructed views of the surrounding hills and countryside.
